For many people, the word ‘Psychology’ conjures up image of couches and bearded Psychiatrist, or men in lab coats watching rats running around mazes. To someone who has studied psychology seriously for a number of years, this general view of subject is somewhere “dishearting”.Sometimes, they treat the brain as a BLACK BOX, whose processes we have to infer from the study of a person’s behaviors.
What’s Psychology🧐(psychelogia), Simply psychology stands for psyche-breath, life, soul and logia-speech, word. “Psychologie is the knowledge of the soul”.Research in psychology seeks to understand and explain how people think, act and feel. Not surprisingly, another goal of psychology is to make predictions about how we think and act. Once we understand more about what happens and why it happens, we can use that information to make predictions about when, why and how it might happen again in future.
Predictions can also allow psychologists to make a guesses about human behavior without necessarily understating the mechanisms underlying the phenomenon.
“DO YOU THINK PSYCHOLOGY IS MYTH?”
If YES, then no wonder there are so many different misconceptions about exactly what psychology is and is not.
Here we go,…
Myth 1:Psychology is easy:-
Why do some people mistakenly believe that psychology is simple and easy? One reason might be because many tend to assume that since they have so much personal experience with human behavior, they will naturally be experts on subject. Fortunately, Just because psychology is challenging dose’nt mean that it isn’t accessible to anyone who might take an interest in it.
Myth 2:Psycholohy is just common sense
Even you think that “of course, that’s true it is just a common sense”. Then just think why psychiatrists even waste thier time in researching stuff’s that just mean only common sense? People sometimes exclaim😐.So please whoever thinks it’s a case then pick up any book outlinling some most famous experiments in history of psychology and what you will quickly realize is that much of this research refutes what was believed to be only common sense. Reseachers are able to take some of these questions and Presumptions about human behavior and test them scientifically, assessing truth or falsehood.
Myth 3: “Psychologists get paid lots of money to listen to people talk”
I’m dont have much idea about this but according to my search, psychologists are very well compensated for their work. People think they are just passively sitting back, doodling on a yellow notepad. But traditional talk therapy is only one technique that therapist might use. Throughout the sessions, therapists are actively engaged in listening to client, asking questions, providing advice and helping clients develop solutions to put into daily practice.
Salaries can vary just as dramatically. It is a work in field of mental health and focus on helping people who experience psychological distress. Some of lowest paying psychological jobs stats out in $20,000 – $ 30,000 and highest paying jobs can reach up $100,000 – $ 250,000 range. Factors such as speciality area, educational background and years of experience are what determine salary.
Myth 4: “Psychology isn’t a real science “
Another common myth about psychology is that it is not a real science. First, let’s examine exactly what science is and is not. Here we go,
• Uses empirical methods
• Researchers control
• Allows hypothesis testing
• Finding allow researches to predict future occurrences.
Psychology relies on all these methods in order to investigate human and animal behavior. However, it’s important to note that scientific psychology does have some limitations. Human behavior can vary and change over time, so what is true in one particular time and place might not necessarily apply in different situations, cultures, societies and settings.
